In an effort to quell false online rumours, the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) is telling Canadians that getting a Covid-19 vaccine will not impact their insurance coverage.
The industry trade group issued a statement reporting that it has become aware of claims on social media that people who get a vaccine “will not be able to get life insurance or may be denied their disability or life insurance benefits.”
“These claims are incorrect and have no basis in fact whatsoever,” it said.
The CLHIA stressed that receiving the vaccine will not affect individual or workplace life and health benefits, nor future applications for coverage.
“No one should be afraid and choose to not protect themselves from Covid-19 because they are worried about it affecting their benefits,” the association said in a statement.
“All of Canada’s life and health insurers are supportive of Canadians receiving government approved vaccinations to protect themselves from serious illness and death.”
The group noted that the vaccines have been approved as safe and effective by Health Canada’s independent review process, and that insurers consider vaccination to be “one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and others from serious illness and death from Covid-19.”
